GUWAHATI: The BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) has slammed AASU general secretary SankorJyotiBaruah for criticizing Chief Minister SarbanandaSonowal during an interactive session with media persons on January 7.

The BJP stated that it is the people who will decide whether the CM Sonowal-led government has worked for the betterment of the society, not the AASU.

In a statement, BJP spokesperson LakhyaKonwar highlighted some of the 'achievements' made by the Sonowal-led government during its regime.

"Over the last four and half years, the Sonowal-led government has been successful in making all-round development for all communities. The Government has provided land pattas to 1,05,261 landless indigenous families and has developed 8,000 Namghars by providing Rs 2.5 lakh to each. The Government has taken various initiatives to make 750 acres of the Kaziranga National Park free from encroachment. As many as 193 poachers have been arrested in the past years. Additionally, the Government has provided financial assistance to all XahityaXabhas, artistes from the film and theatre industries, women SHGs, and martys' kin. It has also introduced old age pensions," stated Konwar.

He asserted that the Sonowal government has taken a 'zero tolerance' stand against corruption. In connection to the APSC scam, it has sent 88 officials to jails, Konwar pointed out.

He lamented that the remarks made by the AASU general secretary over such 'achievements' of the CM is not acceptable.
