GUWAHATI: With the landmark announcement of bringing the coveted Black Lady to Assam this year, Filmfare on Monday declared that for the first time in six decades, it is going to host the 65th edition of Filmfare awards in Assam that will be held on February 15, 2020. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the prestigious 65th Filmfare Awards 2020 was signed between the Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) and The Times Group.

Expressing his happiness for selecting Assam as venue, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that this event must be regarded as one of the most auspicious days for the Assamese Cultural world as well as for Assamese film. Sonowal further claimed the MoU signing event as the first milestone of this fruitful partnership. Sonowal added, “We want to be the gateway of Southeast Asia. Every Assamese will cooperate in making this event a success. This mega event by one of India’s most prestigious media organizations would ensure showcasing Assam as one of the most attractive tourist destinations.” Sonowal said that a total of Rs 23 crore is the budget for Filmfare 2020. He specially appealed media for cooperation in this event, so that Assam and Assam film can have access to a wide range of audiences worldwide.

Chairman of Assam Tourism Development Corporation Ltd, Jayanta Malla, announced that the Time Group has declared to provide 50 % of revenue collected from ticket booking to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. Baruah mentioned that the reach of Filmfare was 1.96 billion in the last year, this year we’re expecting to reach over 2 billion. He said, “We are bound to work through the limited budget, so Filmfare will bring us a golden opportunity to reach almost 2 million people. As we can afford only Rs 1.50 to Rs 2 per person, so in general we need more than Rs. 300-400 crore to reach 2 billion people, which we can’t afford. By spending only one-tenth, we will be able to reach our goal to bring phenomenal tourist footfalls in the near future.

Speaking on the occasion Managing Director of The Times Group Vineet Jain said that signing MoU for Filmfare 2020 is a historic event, which will strengthen the bond of Assam with one of Asia’s grand platform Bollywood, which will place Assam in the global map.

The MoU signing ceremony and the landmark announcement of hosting Filmfare 2020 in Assam were made in the presence of eminent dignitaries that also included Minister for Tourism Chandan Brahma, Commissioner & Secretary, Tourism Department, IAS Dr. M Angamathu, and CEO of World Wide Media Deepak Lamba.
