GUWAHATI: Substance Abuse & Recovery - A Handbook, a comprehensive book on the serious social threat of drug addiction/alcoholism, was formally launched by Assam Director General of Police, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, on Friday at Assam Police Headquarters.

The book has been published by Centre for Substance Abuse Prevention & Care (CSAPC) - a public charitable trust and written and compiled by Rabiul Islam, Managing Trustee. It is a study on the complex nature of drug addiction and its impact on society.

The Director General of Police while releasing the 313-page exhaustive book praised Islam for his 'labour of love' and added that the handbook will be a very useful reference for people in need. He said State polic policy will now change as emphasis will also be given to demand reduction. He also added that all stakeholders have to work together to meet this social threat.

The writer urged upon the DGP to initiate a State response team comprising significant stakeholders so as to formulate effective strategies for substance abuse prevention.

The IGP (CID) Surendar Kumar and social activist Asomee Dutta Barua were also present in the function.
