GUWAHATI: Guwahatians will soon be able to walk around a Botanical Garden at the old jail campus in Fancy Bazaar.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that a Botanical Garden will be built at the old jail campus in Fancy Bazaar and another park is being built at the Maligaon Housing Board site.

According to reports, the botanical garden will have a wide variety of plants, including medicinal plants and plants endemic to the State. It will also have a walking track.

Further, the state government has laid the foundation stone of 'Nature Park' at Assam Khadi & Village Industries Board campus at Hengrabari.

The park would be built by GMDA on a plot of more than 14 bighas at Rs 11.93 cr and would have a watchtower, cafeteria, playing area for children, meditation centre, nursery, etc.

It is to be mentioned here that earlier today, State Minister for the Department of Housing & Urban Affairs and Irrigation, Ashok Singhal visited the site for an ongoing project of Botanical Garden in the Old Jail campus with Addl. Chief Secy of Assam & other concerned officials.

Further, the minister also took stock of the multilevel car parking near Sukleswar along with Addl Chief Secy of Assam & other concerned officials.

"As per poll promise, GoA led by HCM Dr. @himantabiswa is committed to resolve the parking issue & make it fully functional in all areas of Guwahati city," the minister tweeted.

Minister Singhal also visited the beautiful heritage Bungalow in the bank of mighty Brahmaputra, 'Bahniman Brahmaputra River Heritage Centre' at Old DC residence.
