By-Poll: BJP Assam Pradesh Names Candidates In Legislative Assembly Constituencies (LACs)

GUWAHATI: The BJP Assam Pradesh has named its candidates for the by-poll slated for October 21, 2019 in Ratabari, Rangapara, Sonari and Jonai Legislative Assembly Constituencies (LACs). The party’s central committee has decided to filed Bijay Malakar for Ratabari, Rajen Barthakur for Rangapara, Nabanita Handique for Sonari and Towfiqur Rahman for Jania.

The State BJP’s election committee, headed by State party president Ranjeet Kumar Dass as the chairman, did name probable candidates numbering three for each of three LACs, barring Jania on September 25. The meeting entrusted Dass to pick up a panel of three candidates for the Jania LAC from where the number of ticket aspirants was quite high. On September 26, Dass picked up three probable candidates for the Jania LAC and sent all the four panels for as many LACs to the central election committee of the party for the final selection. The central election committee of the party has picked up the final names from the panels of probable candidates sent by the State party president, barring that of Jania. Towfiqur Rahman, the vice president of the State BJP and a noted actor, has been picked up for the Jania LAC from outside the panel sent by Dass.
