Cable Operators Disagree Over New TRI (Telecom Regulatory of India) Guidelines

GUWAHATI: TRI (Telecom Regulatory of India) has issued a notice towards Cable operators on December 19 to change the existing cable charges issued by local cable operators.

According to the notice, cable operators cannot charge money on their own. For the monthly charge on cable, a guideline has been implemented. According to the guideline, a minimum of Rs 130 plus 18% GST is the minimum amount. In this pack, only the free to air packs will be aired which cannot exceed more than 25 channels, for which a maximum amount of Rs 20 plus 18% GST will be charged. The paid channels will announce their own channel charges.

According to TRI guidelines, consumers will have to pay around Rs 400 per month for their cable network. However, according to the TRI guidelines, 80% of the proceeds will be received by the TV channels and only 20% will be distributed equally between the Control Room and Cable Operator.

In a press meet, Rajesh Kumar Sarma advisor of The Greater Guwahati Cable TV Operators Association has expressed his disagreement over the TRI guideline and has extended the support of the organizations towards the other cable networks of India. They have urged the consumers to contact their local cable networks to know more about the new TRI guideline and extend their support over the disagreement expressed by The Greater Guwahati Cable TV Operators Association.
