GUWAHATI: Nitumoni Singha, wife of Hitesh Kalita against whom the former has lodged a case (152/2021) regarding domestic violence at Hatigaon Police Station recently, has appealed to the Director General of Police to initiate an 'impartial investigation' into the case.

Addressing a press meet at the All Assam Lawyers' Association Office here on Tuesday, Singha, who is an advocate by profession, said that Kalita and his family members were physically and mentally harassing her for a long time. The victim also underlined that Kalita is an executive member of the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) and is an aspirant of candidature from Chhygaon constituency. She appealed to the DGP that Kalita should not become free with the help of his political background.

She also appealed to State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass to expel Kalita from the preliminary membership of the party to pay respect to the Prime Minister's 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' slogan.

She also informed the media that Kalita had hidden the fact of his earlier marriage before marrying her.

Meanwhile, Kalita has applied for bail at the Gauhati High Court in the case (152/2021 u/s (B)/417/498 (A)/325/324/313 IPC), the victim said. The couple got married on September last year and was residing at a rented house in the Hatigaon area.
