Celebrate Dipawali without crackers: Guwahati DC, CP

Guwahati: Biswajit Pegu, DC of Kamrup metropolitan district along with Munna Prasad Gupta, Guwahati Police Commissioner requested the citizens of Guwahati to celebrate diwali without firecrackers.

Biswajit Pegu appealed to the public not to make noise and pollute air amidst Covid 19 and celebrate Diwali by lighting diyas. He urged the administration to keep an eye on the sale of Chinese crackers and decorative lights and act strictly while issuing license for the same.

The police commissioner informed that the administration has allowed bursting crackers only till 10 pm and urged the people to celebrate 'Green Diwali'.

Meanwhile, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has issued an order issuing a ban on the sale and use of firecrackers in Diwali. Assam Forest and Environment Minister Parimal Suklabaidya said that the state government won't ban the bursting of firecrackers but has requested the people to burst crackers sensibly.
