Central Government Seeks More Time For Affidavit

GUWAHATI: The Central government has sought more time for submitting its affidavit before the National Green Tribunal (NGT), New Delhi in the case relating to the Lower Subansiri Hydroelectric Project (LSHP) at Gerukamukh along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.

The NGT, New Delhi heard the case on Tuesday. The case was filed by former AASU (All Assam Students’ Union) leader Tularam Gogoi. On behalf of the petitioner, Tularam Gogoi and AASU president Dipanko Kumar Nath were present at the hearing.

In a statement issued to the media on Tuesday, AASU president Nath said: “The Central government has not submitted its affidavit in the case relating to the hydel project on time, and sought more time today. The government could not honour the report of the experts’ committee of Assam and experts. Neither the Centre, nor Dispur has reply to the argument put forwarded by the local experts on the project.”
