GUWAHATI: Along with the rest of the world, May Day was organised in the city of Guwahati as well. The organisation took out a rally to mark the occasion and chanted slogans like ‘Save the country’, ‘Save the Constitution,” and ‘Protect workers’ rights’.
CITU State General Secretary Tapan Sharma hoisted the red flag on May Day at the premises of Bonda Assam Roofing Company at 7.30 a.m. He spoke about the relevance of the day during his speech and questioned the policies of the government towards the workers.
Several other members took part in celebrations across the city, including CITU Kamrup District President Mukut Moni Das at Panjabari Bazar Chowk, Ajit Chowdhury in Natun Bazar, Basishta, Naren Pathak at Baragaon LP School Ground, Bhola Rajbhar in front of Kalapahar Jute Mill, Tapan Sharma and Ratan Sutradhar at Maligaon Chariali Chowk, Indira Newar at Kalangpar Bazar, Thaneswar Ranghang at Sonapur Ghagua, Bidyut Chakraborty at the CRU office at Ulubari Vivekananda Road, Manik Ahmed at Bhetapara, Kandarpa Das in Malaibari, Umesh Das in Tetelia, and Maheshwar Deka in Khetri. They also hoisted the red flag in these locations.
