Chakka Bandh called by All Assam Motor Transport Association

City commuters faced immense suffering and inconveniences due to an indefinite 'Chakka Bandh' called by the All Assam Motor Transport Association (AAMTA) from Monday. The AAMTA has demanded increase in bus fares in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. With no buses, trackers, e-rickshaws commuters were seen standing on roads for several hours under the scorching Sun. Despite assurances by the State Transport department to run ASTC buses during the Chakka Bandh skeleton numbers of such vehicles actually ply on roads. "The fuel price has increased. The government has ordered to carry 50 per cent passengers. We should be allowed to carry 100 per cent passengers or the fares must be hiked. Till our demands are met the Chakka Bandh will continue," said a member of the AAMTA.
