Child marriage: youth arrested in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: An instance of child marriage came to light in Guwahati on Thursday. As per this connection, a youth was arrested for eloping with a minor girl and allegedly marrying her. As per sources, the accused eloped with the girl a few days ago and was on the run. After the prolonged manhunt, the police could apprehend the accused along with the girl in the Gotanagar area. The accused has been identified as Amit Biswas. He is from Gotanagar.

After the girl’s family filed a complaint at the Dispur police station, the police started investigating the matter.

Based on a tip-off, the police raided a house in Gotanagar and arrested the accused on Wednesday night. They revealed then that they had gotten married.
