Citizens spent Rs 12.5 crore on alcohol on Magh Bihu in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Guwahati is known to record high alcohol sales during festive days. This has been proven yet again by the numbers revealed by the Excise Department of the state, which show the sale of Rs 12.5 crore worth of alcohol over two days in Bihu, while the whole state clocked sales of Rs 20 crore during the same duration.

The excise department announced that alcohol worth Rs 7.2 crore was sold on Sunday, January 14, which coincided with Uruka celebrations, while on the day of Bihu, that is, January 15, alcohol worth Rs 4.6 crore was sold, bringing the total amount to around Rs 12.5 crore. It can be noted that this number is considerably higher than the almost Rs 8 crore worth of alcohol sold during the New Year celebrations.
