CLP Lodges Complaint Against Chandra Mohan Patowary in SEC

GUWAHATI: Leader of Opposition and CLP leader Debabrata Saikia has moved the State Election Commission (SEC) with a complaint against State Industries Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary for, what Saikia said, a serious violation of the model code of conduct during campaign for the panchayat poll.

The complaint which Saikia submitted to the SEC on Friday says, “Sri Chandra Mohan Patowary can be seen and heard telling the audience at an election rally that the Central and the State governments would stop releasing development funds in case the public did not vote for the BJP in the ongoing panchayat election.” Saikia further said in his complaint, “This sort of statement made in public is tantamount to coercion and blackmailing of the electorate and makes a mockery of the right to exercise franchise without fear of punishment from the regime in power.” According to the complaint, Patowary has ‘blatantly violated the model code of conduct inasmuch as his threat to stop allocation of funds for development works in specific areas in case of electoral defeat is glaring example of intimidation of voters’.
