GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma laid the foundation stone of a Shree Sankardeva Namghar and Socio-Cultural Centre at Poshari and Twre village of Karjat area of Raigarh district in Maharashtra on Friday, stated a press release.

The project is being implemented under the aegis of the people of the village and with the help of Assamese community living in Mumbai.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister appreciated the initiative and said that it is only through such efforts that Assamese culture will keep shining gloriously in the world. The Chief Minister also assured all cooperation, including financial assistance, for construction of the Namghar from the State Government. Sarma also announced that a temple of Maa Kamakhya would be built near the Namghar. Local MLA Mahendra Thorve and representatives of the Assam Association, Mumbai as well as Srimoyee Asomiya Mahila Samaj were present on the occasion.
