Commissionerate of Food Safety issues closure notices to 8 hotels & restaurants in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Sleuths from the Office of the Commissionerate of Food Safety issued closure notices to eight hotels, restaurants and sweet shops, besides asking eight such institutions to improve their food safety standards in the Maligaon area in Guwahati on Friday.

The team was led by senior food safety officer Tarun Das. According to Das, the hotels, restaurants and sweet shops that have been issued closure notices are – Punjabi Hotel, Mohan’s Hotel, Shubham Hotel, Maa Hotel, Ramesh Gupta Hotel, Bimal Ghosh Hotel, Delux Bakery, and Biryani Centre. Eight other institutions that have been asked to improve their food safety standards, according to Das, are – Mina Gupta Hotel, Nisha Hotel, Maa Manasa Hotel, Vishnu Mistanna Bhandar, Om Sweet & Bakery, New Padma Bakery, Shyama Hotel & Restaurant, and Ananda Mistanno Bhander. “We’ve given them one week's time. We’ll inspect their food safety standard after a week. If we find the standard OK, we’ll let them continue, and if they fail to meet the standard we’ll have to ask them to close their shops,” Das said.
