GUWAHATI: A conference titled 'G20 SFWG Inception meet aiming innovative investments for climate action' was organized by IIT Guwahati (IIT-G), recently by the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), Government of India (GoI), in association with the State Government of Assam.
The event involved startups, professors, IIT-G students, accelerators, and officials of DEA and Assam State Government. The event started with sharing of experience by startups related to climate technology followed by a Hackathon by IIT-G students on climate finance and a plantation drive.
The workshop began with an introductory remark by PKIyer, Director, IIT Guwahati, followed by an address by Chandni Raina, Adviser (CCFU) and B. Kalyan Chakravarthy, Principal Secretary, Government of Assam. The event witnessed the participation of about 12 startups and about 120 other participants including IIT-G professors, students, accelerators and others. This was followed by the exhibition where the startups demonstrated their models to invitees showcasing the spirit of innovation. Discussions were held to devise an instrument that would be most appropriate for the mobilization of climate finance at a scale and reasonable cost. The side event concluded with a tree plantation drive with closing remarks by Dharmendra Kumar, Joint Director, DEA, and Vimal Katiyar, Dean R and D, IIT Guwahati.
