Guwahati: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) staged protests across the state on Friday, condemning the recent attack on Congress MP Rakibul Hussain in Rupahihat, Nagaon. In Guwahati, the protest was held at Rajiv Bhawan, where party leaders and workers demanded a high-level inquiry into the incident. They also criticized BJP lead state government for allegedly failing to maintain law and order in the state. The protestors were stopped at the gates of Rajiv Bhawan by police barricades and security personnel, preventing them from marching further.

The Congress legislators staged a demonstration inside the Assam Legislative Assembly, raising slogans against the attack. Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia called the attack "unfortunate" and "alarming," highlighting that the Nagaon District Police had prior information about potential threats but failed to prevent the incident. He expressed concerns over rising political violence in Assam and urged the government to take strict action to ensure the safety of all citizens, including opposition leaders.

The attack on Rakibul Hussain occurred on Thursday afternoon when a group of miscreants stopped his convoy while he was on his way to a meeting in Rupahihat. Congress leaders have demanded immediate action against those responsible for the assault.
