GUWAHATI: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Bhupen Kumar Borah formed a seven-member team in order to meet the victim’s family of the 13 year-old teenager who was raped sometime back in the Tinsukia district. Borah, on Monday, issued an order and said, “Sometime back, there was a case of a 13-year-old teenager being raped in the Bordubi area of Tinsukia district by a BJP booth President. Although a FIR has been filed at the Bordubi Police Station, far from arresting the accused, the police haven’t initiated any action. Moreover, many BJP workers have exerted pressure on the family to withdraw the case. Unable to bear the situation, the mother of the victim committed suicide on April 14. The inaction of the Assam Police is inexplicable.”

The seven-member team consists of Raju Sahu, APCC Vice President as Convener; vice president Jayanta Kalita, general secretary of APCC Durga Bhumij; Dr. Hema Hari Pegu; Pathik Deb; Pronob Borua, President DCC Tinsukia; and Sobha Moran, President DMC Tinsukia. They are hereby tasked with visiting the area, meeting the affected family and offering legal aid, meeting the DC of Tinsukia, and meeting the chairperson of the Assam Women Commission.
