GUWAHATI: Thousands of TET-passed contractual teachers rent the air at Khanapara Veterinary Playground in Guwahati on Saturday by shouting slogans in support of their demand for ‘unconditional regularization of their posts with salary protection’.

The protest demonstration was called by the Sadou Asom Prathamik TET-Uttirna Shikshak Somaj. Contractual TET teachers from various districts converged into the playground in thousands in the morning. The police administration was also equally ready from the morning not to allow the situation to escalate into a law-and-order problem.

In a statement issued to the media, the Somaj’s working president Troilokya Deka said: “We’re apprehensive of the future of our jobs. Even though we held talks and submitted memorandums to the Education Minister and higher-ups in the department, nothing tangible has been done towards that end as yet. On June 18, we did send memorandums to the Chief Minister through every deputy commissioner of the State seeking his direct intervention into regularization of our jobs. However, nothing tangible has been done towards that end as yet.”

Among other noted personalities who spoke at the demonstration, Asom Rajyik Prathamik Shikshak Sanmilani secretary general Ratul Chandra Goswami said: “The 41,000 contractual teachers have around one lakh other primary teachers supporting their demand.” The demonstrators submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister seeking his intervention to the issue through the Guwahati Police Commissioner.
