GUWAHATI: With respect to the incident of disrespect of the Assamese language on the night of July 15, Dispur Police have taken strict action to register Case Number 1348/23 and arrested three individuals after receiving orders from the Police Headquarters of Assam Police. In an order issued by the Deputy Inspector General of Police (L & O), the Guwahati Police Commissioner was ordered to take action against the miscreants who caused disharmony and shuffle in the locality.

These three had manhandled several people, including the workers of an eatery on GS Road, for speaking in Assamese, and the incident was captured on camera and shared over social media. A heated argument over the use of the Assamese language escalated into a violent clash during the wee hours of Sunday near ABC Point in Guwahati. Several people were involved in the Initially, the case was not taken seriously by the local police, but upon orders from Assam Police officials, the Guwahati Police Commissionerate sprung into action, and on July 17, they apprehended the culprits.

One Gulshan Kumar Singh, aged 24 years, resident of House number 58, Basistha Chariali, Kundil Nagar, and Ritik Jindal, aged 25 years, resident of House number 36, Basistha Chariali, Kundil Nagar, were sent to judicial custody, while the third person was sent to a reform home for juveniles.
