Coronavirus Scare: 33rd Guwahati Book Fair deferred again

GUWAHATI: The Coronavirus scare has led the Publication Board, Assam to defer its 33rd Guwahati Book Fair for an indefinite period. Earlier, the book fair was scheduled to be held from March 14-25, 2020 at the AEI Playground, Chandmari.

Publication Board, Assam Secretary Promod Kalita said in a statement issued on Sunday that the decision for deferring the book fair has been taken in accordance with the precautionary and advisory measures issued by the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry following the outbreak of Coronavirus all over the world. The Union Ministry has advised all concerned to limit mass gathering so as not to let Coronavirus spread. “We had to defer the book fair the preparations for which were almost complete,” he said.

This is the second such deferment of the Book Fair. Earlier it was deferred following the statewide anti-CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) agitation.
