GUWAHATI: The National Council of State Agricultural Marketing Boards (COSAMB) has appointed Palit Kumar Borah as its new chairman. He took charge of the office on June 5.

The COSAMB was created in 1988 to discuss the various problems faced by different States regarding the agriculture and agricultural marketing sectors. Currently, there are 24 States under the platform. The Agricultural Marketing Advisor, Government of India, and National Institute of Agriculture Marketing (NIAM) are also members of the COSAMB.

Talking to the mediapersons, Borah said that he wants to introduce Assam's agricultural products to the national markets. He said that the farmers don't get the minimum support price (MSP). "I want to solve the problems of the farmers and increase their ways of income. I will introduce them the ways to directly enter the markets with their products," Borah asserted.

Further, he said, "As a chairman of ASAMB, it was my dream to develop the Daranggiri banana market. Under North East Council (NEC), Rs 9.90 crore has been allocated. Through the funds, the Daranggiri banana market will be developed.

It is to be mentioned that, he is the first person from the Northeast to become the chairman of COSAMB. Earlier, he was serving as the senior vice-chairman of COSAMB since November 2017.
