GUWAHATI: Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the demand of masks has increased in the market. Keeping in view of the demand, two self help groups (SHGs) of the city have started a mobile mask selling centre.

Members of Grihalakhi Self-help group and Bhagyashree Self-help group are selling masks in an e-rickshaw, which was been converted as a mask selling centre. Price of each face-mask is Rs 20. Both the groups are based in Lachit Nagar.

The groups started the initiative after receiving suggestion from the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC). "As of now, we have made around 500 and are selling them at various parts of the city," said Kulada Gogoi, a member of Grihalakhi self-help group.

"We think this will allow us to be self-reliant. We are selling the masks at Rs 20 per piece. The sale is satisfactory and we have received a good response from the customers," said Dipa Deka, a member of Bhagyashree Self-help group.
