Crime Branch registers case: Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma morphed tweet

GUWAHATI: State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma cleared air on a fake screenshot of his verified Twitter account stating exaggerated number of corona cases in the State.

Sarma is active on Social Media and regular updates about the COVID situation in the State. The image circulated through social media prevailed panic among the citizens; however, the minister later dismissed the rumours through his twitter handle and urged the Assam Police to lodged an FIR and investigate the matter.

In this regard, the Guwahati Crime Branch has registered a Suo Moto case – 06/2020 under section 471/469 of IPC and 66 (D) of IT Act.

According to Crime Branch sources, the account from which the morphed image was posted has been deleted. "It is hard to identify the main source of the image as it has been shared by many people over the time. We have forwarded a report to Facebook," the source added.
