Cultural programmes, melas restricted during Chhath Puja in Guwahati City

GUWAHATI: Almost of the festivals in country were celebrated in a low key manner due to the pandemic, the Chhath Puja celebrations in the city will also be minimal after the Kamrup Metro District Administration restricted cultural programmes and melas during the festivities.

In this regard, the Kamrup (Metro) District Administration held a meeting on Thursday with representatives of Chhath Puja celebration Committees. The meeting was chaired by DC Biswajit Pegu and was district administration officials, and senior officers of Guwahati Police were also present.

The Chhath Puja will be celebrated in various parts of the city on November 20. The puja will be held in the UzanbazarGhat to Bharalu Mukh, Sunsali, Pandu Ghat, Maligaon Railway Stadium, Birubari Meen Bhawan, Basistha, Lalmati, Khanapara Farm Gate, Hatigaon, JyotiKuchi, Narengi, Patharkuwari, Azara and Chandrapur.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the officials to ensure that the COVID protocols were followed during the celebrations. Discussions on arrangement of drinking water and maintaining cleanliness were also held.

All the puja committees will have to install CCTV cameras at their premises and no eateries will be allowed.

The committees should take permission before the celebrations and appoint volunteers for the safe conduct of the puja.

The Distrct Administrstion has ordered the State Water Transport Department to halt the services of private boats during the time of puja. However, the rescue boats will be ready to tackle any unforeseen incident.

The DC ordered the APDCL to maintain the flow of electricity connection in Puja areas and the SDRF and NDRF to be vigilant in accident prone areas of the Brahmaputra. The Fire and Emergency Services were also ordered to deploy fire tenders in Pandu, Basistha and Bharalumukh.
