GUWAHATI: All Assam Koch Rajbongshi Sanmilan is hopeful about the delimitation draft issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI). The Sanmilan are hopeful, as this draft will act as a protection for the indigenous people of the state and will certainly protect the political rights of future generations. The ECI has issued a statement on the draft that indirectly indicates that the long struggle of the Koch Rajbongshi community for political rights, the largest indigenous community in the state, will be successful.

The Sanmilan’s General Secretary, Ranaditya Kumar Barman, said, “The draft has paved the way for the protection of the indigenous people of the state and will certainly protect the political rights of future generations. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced that the draft will pave the way for the Koch Rajbongshi to play a decisive role in several constituencies, which is a hopeful step. Two Lok Sabha and several assembly constituencies in central and southern Assam will strengthen the political rights of our community. This is a welcome step to protect indigenous Bhumiputras like us. The Barpeta Lok Sabha constituency has been reconstituted to enable Koch Rajbongshi to play a decisive role. The people have shown satisfaction with the renaming of Mangaldai Lok Sabha constituency to Darrang. The Koch Rajbongshis will be prosperous in Bilasipara, Abhayapuri, Golokganj, Bongaigaon, Bijni, Bhabanipur, Tihu, Palashbari, Tangla, Sipajhar, Mangaldai, Nagaon, Sibsagar, Chichibargaon, and Ranganadi assembly constituencies.”

The Sanmilan further said, “We are also hopeful that the Koch Rajbongshi community will play a decisive role in many other assembly constituencies. We hope that the ruling party will win the Barpeta and Darrang Lok Sabha constituencies as the representation of the Koch Rajbongshi community in Parliament and the Assembly is decreasing. It will give our people the opportunity to compete.”
