GUWAHATI: AIUDF president and three-time MP Badruddin Ajmal urged President of India Droupadi Murmu to take the issue of attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh seriously and direct the Government of India to engage actively with the Bangladeshi authorities.

In a letter to the President of India, Ajmal said, “I am bringing to your attention a matter of grave concern regarding the increasing attacks on Hindus and their religious places in Bangladesh since the establishment of the new government. As you are aware, Bangladesh has historically been home to a diverse range of communities, including a significant Hindu minority. However, recent reports indicate a disturbing rise in violence and discrimination against these communities. This situation not only undermines the fabric of a peaceful society but also poses a threat to the fundamental principles of justice and equality. As the largest democracy in the world and a neighbouring country, India has a unique responsibility to advocate for the rights and safety of minorities in Bangladesh. It is imperative that we leverage our diplomatic influence to urge the Bangladeshi government to take immediate and effective measures to protect its Hindu population and ensure their religious freedoms. We must use our global standing to highlight these issues on international platforms, fostering dialogue that emphasizes the importance of coexistence and mutual respect among all communities. It is essential for the Bangladesh government to recognize its duty in safeguarding the lives and properties of all its citizens, particularly those belonging to minority groups.”

Ajmal further said, “We must advocate for the protection of life, property, and religious sites for Hindus and other minorities, pushing for accountability and action against those who perpetrate violence. We must put pressure on Bangladesh to correct its course and strive toward a harmonious society where all individuals, regardless of their faith, can live without fear and with dignity.”
