Discussions on Marketing Indie Films at Guwahati International Film Festival (GIFF)

GUWAHATI: “This is the perfect time for promoting movies. In this era of internet it has become much easier for new and budding filmmakers to promote their movies, getting audience is not a problem anymore as we have one of the finest platforms, which is the internet,” said internationally-acclaimed filmmaker Rima Das while taking part in the open forum organized by Guwahati International Film Festival (GIFF) on the topic 'Marketing Indie Films: From Regional to International Co-production'.

Speaking on the marketing aspect of film Das said that if an independent filmmaker is left with no capital for promoting movies in its post-production part, they can take the benefit of internet. However, the treatment should have a universal appeal, only then will the impact be universal. Besides Rima Das, filmmaker Rajni Basumatary and film marketing personality Anupama Bose, Xu Jianshang and Jani Biswanath attended the forum held on Marketing Indie films moderated by Shyam Bora.

Jani Biswanath said, “We need more independent filmmakers to portray realistic drama. Casting a known face sometimes overshadows the actual plot. What matters is the substance rather than how much money we invest.” It is to be mentioned that along with other foreign and Indie movies, Rima Das’s national award winning movie Bulbul Can Sing was also screened followed by an interactive session with the cast and crew.
