GUWAHATI: A reputable educational institution, Dispur College, is breaking stereotypes and making a laudable effort by allocating five seats for transgender students. According to the college’s principal, Dr. Navajyoti Borah, five spots in the commerce and art courses will be reserved for transgender students. However, students must provide adequate documents, and those without a BPL card may request free admission by signing an affidavit. Additionally, at least two transgender students in need would receive free admission. Dispur College is known for taking commendable initiatives to enhance the lives of transgender individuals, including designing specific restrooms for them, taking part in activities that support the transgender community, and implementing the gender champion programme.
Not only this, but the college has made this effort to motivate individuals from all backgrounds to keep pursuing their education. Additionally, it has helped spread the idea of equality.
