GUWAHATI: Back from Mizoram border, Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia said that Assam has disputes with all states in the region with which it shares boundary, let alone Mizoram.

Addressing the media at Rajiv Bhawan here on Thursday, Saikia said, "Assam shares inter-State boundary with the seven sister states in 24 districts. There have been more than twenty incidents of encroachment by the neighbouring States in Assam territory from 2016 to March 2020. However, during the past few months this number has gone up and of late Meghalaya has encroached upon and killed Assam civilians in Boko LAC at Langpih and in Cachar district Mizo encroached upon Assam land and killed one civilian who was taken hostage and latter handed over to Mizo administration. Similarly, in Karbi Anglong and Jorhat districts Nagaland has encroached upon Assam reserve forest. In Cachar district the Mizos have encroached upon forest land in the LAC represented by State Forest and Environment Minister Parimal Suklabaidya. As such, the present Forest Minister isn't able to protect the Forest of Assam from the neighbouring States who have even dared to give periodic patta on Forest land. Similarly, the Home Minister of Assam, who is also the Chief Minister, is also not able to keep the commitment he had made to protect our Jaati-Maati-Bheti."
