GUWAHATI: The Advocate General, Assam, has sought 10 more days' time on the compensation to be given to the 'Medicare Service Persons', who may be the victims of violence during discharge of their duties, as also the question of installation of CCTV cameras in hospitals, where no CCTV camera has been installed.

The request was made to the Division Bench of Chief Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia and Justice Manash Ranjan Pathak when the Bench was hearing the PIL (Public Interest Litigation) (Suo Moto)/4/2021 and PIL 33/2021.

In this PIL, concern has been raised about the doctors and paramedics, who are the frontline warriors and it also touches on an incident where a doctor was manhandled and beaten up by a mob in Udali Model Hospital in the district of Hojai. Further prayer in this petition is that suitable measures be taken by the State to ensure that such incidents do not occur in future.

The Advocate General, Assam, also informed by the High Court Bench that as far as the incident that occurred on June 1, 2021 is concerned; the police have completed its investigation and charge-sheet has been filed. It was also submitted before the Court that 24 persons have been arrested so far.

The next date of hearing on the case is on July 30, 2021.
