GUWAHATI: District Level Centre for Women (DLCW) Kamrup Metropolitan District conducted an awareness cum sanitary items distribution camp at Amsing Village, Jorabat.

The camp was held under the supervision of Kunjalata Lachon, District Social Welfare Officer, Kamrup Metro.

The DLCW aimed to reach out to the poor girl students of the district specially school dropouts to motivate them for education or skill development courses.

The body created awareness among people about the precautionary measures which should be taken to contain the spread of COVID 19. It camp also emphasized on awareness regarding women centric schemes and issues. Under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme, the body distributed sanitary items to the needy women and girls in the different parts of the district.

The camp was organized by maintaining social distancing norms and the participants of were adolescent girls of the village, stakeholders, supervisors, Anganwadi workers and Anganwadi helpers of the Noonmati ICDS Project.

Kunjalata Lachon delivered a speech on value of girl child and importance of education for girls. The participants were informed that they can prevent the spread of coronavirus by maintaining social distancing, washing hands, using face masks and consulting doctors if any symptom of COVID 19 is noticed.

As a stakeholder of the area, the Head of the Amsing Primary School attended the programme and pointed out various reasons which pushed the girls of the area to dropout of school. The DLCW team made an effort to list out the girls who are dropouts and motivate them and their parents on importance of education. The participants were also informed about the skill development courses provided by different schemes/programmes like Vocational Training cum Rehabilitation Centre, Assam Skill Development Mission etc.

A total of 20 adolescent girls participated in the programme and sanitary items along with BBBP leaflet were distributed among them.
