GUWAHATI: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has appealed to all segment of railway passengers not to fall prey to rumors that are being spread in various media platforms about heavy rush in trains due to surge in COVID cases. It is seen that some old videos showing crowd at various stations are making rounds in social media platforms, stated a release. Some news reports also falsely mention that there is mass movement of people. People are requested not to believe in such rumours. We appeal everyone to avoid sharing such news and videos.
This has been specifically said by Rahul Gautam, Additional General Manager, NFR while interacting with the media at Maligaon here on Friday. Gautam along with Utpalparna Hazarika, Pr. Chief Operations Manager, Tanweer Hasan, Chief Commercial Manager (Freight Marketing) and Subhanan Chanda, Chief Public Relations Officer of the NFR were present during the interaction.
Gautam also said that the NFR is running as many as 80 trains at present for the convenience of passengers and adequate tickets are available. Number of trains may be increased gradually depending on overall COVID situation in the country. At present only passengers having confirmed tickets are being permitted to board the trains. He also advised everyone to adhere to all norms, SOPs related to COVID-19 at stations, during boarding, travel and at destination. The NFR is fully cooperating with all the respective State government authorities for ensuring safety of passengers. He asked the media to create more awareness about wearing mask properly, washing hands frequently using soap/ sanitizer and maintaining social distance while in public places. Railway authority might resort to imposing fine for not wearing mask properly in railway premises to restrict the spread of COVID, he added.
