Dr Amit Pandey Assistant Professor of Gauhati University suspended

GUWAHATI: The Registrar & Disciplinary Authority of GU (Gauhati University) has suspended Dr Amit Pandey, Assistant Professor, Department of Hindi, G.U. for being allegedly involved in a matter of sexual harassment case. Pandey was suspended on September 29.

Earlier, he was issued a Show Cause Notice on August 20, 2021 in relation to the case. He did not respond to it. He was again issued another show cause notice on September 5, 2021. But, he did not respond to this notice as well. Hence, the matter was referred to the ICC (Internal Complaints Committee) of the University. As per report, he has not yet acknowledged the communication made by the ICC as well.

On the basis of gross defiance of instructions on the part of Dr Amit Pandey, "the Vice Chancellor of GU approved his suspension from service pending finding of the report of the ICC and a decision on the basis of the report", stated the order.

According to the order, the Registrar & Disciplinary Authority of GU "in exercise of the power conferred by Rule 6 of Assam Services (Discipline & Appeal) Rules-1964 and under Rule 45 of GU Employees Service Conditions, Conduct and Appeal Rules-1970 hereby places Dr Pandey under suspension with immediate effect until further orders.

The order added that "During the period of suspension, Dr Pandey will be paid subsistence allowance which shall be 50% of his basic pay and allowances as admissible.
