GUWAHATI: The Oxom Nirman Dol (OND) president Upen Raj Nath on Monday termed "Assam floods" as the biggest enemy to the State's economy. He said that Assam's economy will flourish if the Brahamaputra is dredged thus solving the flood problem.
"The government has not taken any effective measures to the control the flood situation in the State. We appeal to the government not to do politics in the name of constructing embankments. The flood problem can only be solved by dredging the Brahmaputra," Raj Nath pointed out.
The OND claimed that if they are given the responsibility of dredging the Brahmaputra, then they will show that nothing is impossible. If the government cannot solve the flood problem, then they will get a proper answer from the public in the 2021 elections.
"For the last four years, the Assam Government has only talked about big issues but has failed to materialize them," Raj Nath said.
Talking about the petrol and diesel price hike, Raj Nath questioned why the people are paying more despite the prices in the international market is less.
Talking a pot shot at the BJP's public relation campaign, Raj Nath said the BJP workers should visit the families of the martyrs in the anti-CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) protest and compensate them.
The OND also demanded that the OIL (Oil India Limited) and the Centre should compensate for the loss of Assam's oil and gas.
