Guwahati: In a compassionate outreach effort, the Kamrup (M) District Administration, in collaboration with a local NGO, conducted a drive to rescue targeted beggars in Guwahati recently. The drive resulted in the successful rehabilitation of four destitute individuals. The operation was carried out in the Pan Bazar and Maligaon areas, where two men and two women living in vulnerable street conditions were identified and rescued. The rescued individuals have since been relocated to Project Smile and Missionaries of Charity — institutions dedicated to the care and support of the homeless and marginalized.

Officials emphasized that the initiative is part of a broader mission aimed at safeguarding the rights and dignity of the city’s most vulnerable populations.

The administration also extended its appreciation to the NGO partners for their crucial support, underlining the significance of collaborative efforts in addressing social welfare challenges.

More such rescue and rehabilitation drives are planned across other parts of the city in the coming weeks.
