East India Fashion Week 2023 concludes in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: East India Fashion Week 2023 by Annapurna by FNDC powered by USHA Silai School concluded in Guwahati on April 28 and 29 with the participation of 33 designers from across northeast India.

The grand opening ceremony started with a panel discussion on women's empowerment and safety. The panellists for this discussion were Dr. Akshata Narain, Group President, A.M. Television Pvt. Ltd.; Naomi Agarwala, Founder of BOWON; Mary Rupa Tete, Vice President, Usha Silai Schools; and Meghna Rai Medhi, a renowned Assamese designer and entrepreneur. The discussion was moderated by renowned author and motivational speaker Tinat Atifa Masood. This was followed by shows by the Centre of Excellence for Khadi by KVIC and NIFT, followed by a show by Antaran Assam by artisans from Kamrup and Nalbari clusters and GenNext Designers in collaboration with INIFD Guwahati. The first day showcased collections by Prasantt Ghosh, Riyan Ghising, Nishanta Saikia, Binita Baishya, and Jahanara Rahman from Bangladesh, and the project runway for kids and teens by EIFW.

The day one finale on April 28 showcased the latest collection of designer Arita Kashyap. The second day showcased the collections of D. Lidsiiza, Ketouneino Kotsou, Zarina Laskar, Dolly and Debanga Dutta, Sanjay Guha Choudhury, and Barsha Phukan, and the Brides of India shows were specially curated for young makeup artists to showcase their talent in bridal make-up. One of the highlights of the show was announcing the first ever "Legends of the Northeast Award," which was conferred on national award-winning actress Malaya Goswami.

The grand finale on April 29 was a celebration of the artistry and legacy of Assamese fashion designer Anuradha Kuli. This event is an initiative by the Fashion and Design Council of Northeast India (FNDC). Medha Saikia is the founder and president of the organisation; Ms. Meghna Rai Medhi is the general secretary; Pranjit Chetia is the assistant general secretary; and Rittick Sharma Tamuli is the treasurer.
