GUWAHATI: Eid al-Adha or Bakrid, one of the biggest festivals of the Islamic calendar, was celebrated in the city on Sunday with traditional piety and joy.

Known as the 'Feast of Sacrifice', the festival coincides with the final rituals of the annual Haj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.

Many people from the Islamic community assembled at the Machkhowa and Sijubari Eidgahs here to offer their prayers.

One of those who offered prayers today, Salman Hussain, said, "Today is a very important day for the Muslims as it is the 'festival of sacrifice'. I prayed for the pilgrims who are on Haj so that their journey is completed without any obstacles and also for the Hindu pilgrims who are on Amarnath Yatra to come back safely."
