Elderly man murdered in Guwahati city

GUWAHATI: A sexagenarian, identified as Ajit Chetia, was found murdered on Sunday at his residence at the Green View Colony in Tetelia, under the Maligaon Police Outpost.

According to police sources, Chetia, who was an employee of AMTRON, was alone at his house at the time of the murder as his family has gone on a visit to Sarupathar,

Neighbours informed the police about the murder, the sources said, adding that the deceased had an injury mark on his forehead.

It is suspected to be a case of robbery-cum-murder on the basis of prima facie evidence. The body has been sent to the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) for autopsy.

The CID is investigating the case along with a forensic team, while sniffer dogs have also been pressed into service.
