GUWAHATI: Several eminent citizens considered as the think tank of Assam assembled at Lakhidhar Bora Khetra here on Sunday and vowed to carry the battle against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) till the contentious legislation is scrapped.

Eminent citizens, including Homen Borgohain, Hiren Gohain, Ratna Ojha, Lakhi Nandan Bora, Dilip Hazarika and Anima Guha, while protesting against the CAA, said the history would not forgive those who have brought the CAA. “The Assamese people feel cheated. Attempts have been made to befool the Assamese people through the CAA. This is very tragic and unfortunate,” Ratna Ojha said.

Hiren Gohain said the CAA has hurt the ethos of India’s constitution and it goes against the theory of equality. It is a dangerous Act and the democratic protests must go till it is scrapped, he said. Anima Guha expressed surprise as to how the government could enforce an Act that endangers the identity, culture and language of Assamese people. “Let good sense prevails upon the government and withdraw the CAA,” Guha said. Dilip Hazarika said the Assamese people would have to fight a long battle to force the Centre to scrap the CAA. “I am confident that the people of Assam will emerge victorious in the battle,” Hazarika said. Lakshi Nandan Bora said whatever comes in the way the battle against CAA must continue.
