GUWAHATI: The Sadou Asam Karmachari Parishad (SAKP) will stage a protest on February 27 demanding cancellation of the National Pension System (NPS) and bringing back the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). This strike will be staged at every district headquarters. Several government employees' associations decided to join the protest organised by SAKP.

All Assam Heads of Department Ministerial Officers' Association General Secretary Rupak Kumar Kalita said that they will participate in the dharna program. All Assam Pharmacists Service Association President Sudhir Chanda Saha said they have full support for the protest organised by SAKP. The association's district units will participate in all of SAKP's district-level protests. Dwipen Sarma, general secretary of the All Assam ME Teachers' Association, stated that they fully support the protest and will ask their district unit to join with SAKP's district unit for the protest.

SAKP's demands include the restoration of the OPS instead of the NPS (National Pension System). For every state government employee, there should be a free health service scheme, to increase the earned leave of the teachers, prepare service rules for every department, create headmaster posts for primary schools, and junior engineers of various departments should be granted promotion after the creation of ex-cadre posts for them. The school's amalgamated teachers' posts should be elevated, all government employees should be given fixed travel allowances; a compassionary allowance; and increased housing allowances.
