Ensure tribal lands are free from encroachment before new land policy: AITSAA

GUWAHATI: The All India Tribal Students’ Association, Assam (AITSAA) has raised the demand for making tribal belts and blocks in Assam free from encroachment before implementing the new land policy in the State.

Addressing a press conference at Dispur Press Club, AITSAA adviser Arindom Prince Panging said, “The new Assam Land Policy, 2019 is going to violate the Chapter X of the Assam Land and Revenue Regulation, 1886, leading to loss of land by the sons of the soil in tribal belts and blocks. We, therefore, demand the State government to conduct a survey and demarcate tribal belts and blocks and make 4,48,076 bighas of lands free from encroachment from tribal belts and blocks. We welcome the order of the Gauhati High Court to the State government to free encroached lands of tribal belts and blocks.”
