GUWAHATI: Award-winning film director from Assam Jahnu Barua explained as to why the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) has revived the anti-foreigner sentiment of the 1980s.

Barua explained in a video that he released in the official page, "As per 1971, the Assamese-speaking population was 60.88 per cent, which came down to 48.81 per cent in 2001, a drop of 12 per cent. Again Bengali-speaking people had shot up during the same period- 19.71 per cent in 1971 and 27.55 per cent in 2001 census, a rise of 8 per cent." He also added that Assam has already accepted additional 20 lakh migrants.

Barua in the video expressed, "The Assamese people or society is composed of all indigenous people of the state who have been living together harmoniously for centuries. We're proud of this unique identity. Unluckily, the new Act is posing a threat our own identity."
