First Flight Carrying Haj Pilgrims From Northeast Takes Off From LGBI

Boko: An Air India flight took off from Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Borjhar (Guwahati) with the first batch of Haj pilgrims from Northeast India on Thursday. Total 150 Haj pilgrims were on board.

Like every year, on Thursday morning Ramendra Narayan Kalita, MLA of West Guwahati, opened a temporary camp at Borjhar Airport, Guwahati for the Haj pilgrims of this year. Around 200 volunteers were deployed to help pilgrims in the camp.

Nekibur Zaman flagged off the first bus carrying Haj pilgrims to Borjhar Airport. Altaf Hussain, chairman, welcomed the pilgrims who were going to Madina. He said, “Like other years, we are opening the temporary camp for the Haj pilgrims and we have deployed 200 volunteers to help the pilgrims. Daily 150 pilgrims will take off till July 17 from today onwards on one flight, except July 15. There will be two flights on July 15.”

City Police Commissioner Dipak Kumar was present in the flight and supervised the arrangements and security.

Out of total 3,594 Haj pilgrims from the Northeast this year, 3,515 are from Assam, 55 from Meghalaya, 22 from Nagaland and four from Arunachal Pradesh.

Boko Block Congress and Samaria Block Congress for the first time felicitated 31 Haj pilgrims under Boko Legislative Constituency with an appreciation certificate and other important things need in the pilgrimage. MLA Nandita Das and Arabinda Rabha, Boko Block Congress president, were present.
