First woman bus driver of Assam Dipali Rajkhowa no more

GUWAHATI: Assam’s first lady city bus driver and a tough sportsperson Dipali Rajkhowa passed away at a city hospital on Friday. She was 53 years old and was Secretary to the Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress. Rajkhowa was born in a cultural family at Jamurighat and was currently residing at Hengrabari here in the city. She bought her own city bus in 1989 during which time, she also joined the Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress. She was known for being the first woman to participate in a motorbike rally in the Northeast and was both an arm wrestler and a boxer. As a dedicated Assamese film worker, she is well remembered for her roles in Hopun, Piya O Piya, Bisfuron and other Doordarshan programmes. Her residence was thronged by well-wishers who deeply mourned her demise.
