GUWAHATI: In a significant milestone for urban infrastructure, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the Bhagadatta Flyover-2 at Rukminigaon on Sunday. The four-lane, 660-metre-long flyover promises to ease traffic in one of Guwahati’s most congested stretches between Dispur and Six Mile.

In his inaugural speech, the Chief Minister said, “Constructed in a record nine months—well ahead of the 18-month schedule—the Rs 112-crore project stands as a testament to the state’s commitment to rapid and sustainable urban development.”

The Chief Minister said, “The only aim of a government is to make facilities available for the public. This flyover has been constructed using the state-of-the-art technology of RITES India Ltd. This flyover has been named Bhagadatta in consonance with the ancient history of Kamrup. Kamrup King Bhagadatta bravely fought in the war of Kurukshetra between the Pandavas and the Kouravas. More such bridges are on the cards for easing traffic congestion in Guwahati. Two other under-construction flyovers at Bharalumukh and Cycle Factory will be inaugurated in February next. Efforts are on to inaugurate the Ambari-Noonmati flyover next April.”
