GUWAHATI: The Food and Drug Administration, Assam has been playing a crucial role during the COVID-19 lockdown, testing the standard of food being supplied to the people in quarantine centres and the general public. The State Public Health Laboratory (SPHL), commonly called as Food Safety Laboratory, has been testing the quality of food items being supplied during the lockdown.

Talking to The Sentinel, Food Safety Officer LR Nampui said, "Our teams of officials have been working in every district in the State. Besides working with the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, our officials have been observing the quality standards of food materials being supplied for consumption by general people and the people in quarantine centres. They're collecting samples of food materials being supplied and getting them tested in the laboratory to ascertain their quality."

State Public Health Laboratory Director Anupam Gogoi said, "During the lockdown over 100 samples of food materials collected from various districts in the State have been tested. We're keenly observing the quality of food materials being supplied during the lockdown."
