GUWAHATI: Even as the core committee of the AIUDF decided to be in an alliance with the Congress for the 2021 Assembly election in the State, the party's president Badruddin Ajmal said on Sunday that their formal alliance with the Congress would get shape only in January.

Ajmal met former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi at the GMCH (Gauhati Medical College and Hospital) on Sunday to take stock of the latter's health.

Talking to newsmen outside the GMCH, Ajmal said, "Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is our leader. Formal alliance between the Congress and the AIUDF will be only Gogoi coming out from the Hospital. The alliance is going on in the right direction. It will help both the parties."

Welcoming the newly formed regional parties in the State, Ajmal said, "We welcome them to the grand alliance. If they come and join us, it will be good for all."
