Guwahati: Former International Swimmer Elvis Ali Hazarika is going to attempt to cross the Catalina Channel, USA, by swimming approx 20 miles to the shores of Mexico, along with Rimo Saha from West Bengal.

Addressing the media at Guwahati Press Club today, Hazarika said that the swim is going to be a relay between the swimmers, each being given a particular time period and distance.

"We plan to cross the channel on August 15, 2019. I am dedicating this swim to Abhijeet Nath and Nilotpal Das, who recently lost their lives in a fateful incident last year," said Elvis Ali Hazarika.

It is to be noted that former International swimmer Elvis Ali Hazarika has undoubtedly brought laurels to the region by becoming the first ever swimmer from Northeast to swim 29 km of the English Channel which separates southern England from northern France and links to the southern part of the North Sea to the Atlantic Ocean last year in the month of June.

Hazarika became the first Northeastern swimmer to cross around 29 km of the Channel notwithstanding a water temperature of 12-degree centigrade to 11 centigrade in the middle of the Channel in about 10 hours and 15 minutes.
